In fact, execution is probably one of the biggest competitive advantages that startups typically overlook. Investors would always rather have an “A” entrepreneur with a “B” idea than a “B’ entrepreneur with an “A” idea. This is why investors always rate the management team as the key criteria they use to decide where to invest their funds. Ideas don’t make profitable businesses. Management teams that successfully execute their ideas make all the money.

For example, a discount airline is not an innovative concept. Major companies such as United and Delta have tried to execute this many times. Only Southwest has figured out how to make a low-cost, point-to-point airline profitable. While the idea is not unique, the successful execution is rare. This is why “first-mover advantage” may not be an advantage at all. Competition is a valuable thing. Examining the successes and failures other people made with the same idea will always help execution.

William Poundstone, der Autor von”Priceless: the Myth of Fair Value and How to Take Advantage of It” schreibt in seinem Blog:

Jim Daniels, vice-president of marketing for Trojan, confessed to the New York Times that Magnums are basically the same size, just a little wider in the middle.

Und in dem  NY Times Artikel steht:

For all the connotations, however, it turns out that Magnum is not so large. It is the same length as standard condoms, with the same circumference at its base, Mr. Daniels said. “Some people feel more comfortable with that width, but you don’t have to be an overly endowed man to use a Magnum and enjoy it,” he added.

Preisdifferenzierung in Perfektion.

Lucky Bloke’s condom subscription service delivers condoms in six-packs straight to your house. Mix and match them to create your own personal collection of tried and true favorites, new products, or a bit of both. Lubricant can be added as well. Your custom assortment will arrive, discreetly packaged, each month. You can set it and forget it – or login in to your Account Dashboard on the website to easily change your subscription.

Laut Reuters:

Orbitz Worldwide Inc has found that people who use Apple Inc’s Mac computers spend as much as 30 percent more per night on hotels, so the online travel agency is starting to show them different, and sometimes costlier, travel options than Windows visitors see, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Media priming refers to the residual, often unintended consequences of media use on subsequent perceptions, judgments, and behavior. Previous research showed that the media can prime behavior that is in line with the primed traits or concepts (assimilation). However, assimilation is expected to be less likely and priming may even yield reverse effects (contrast) when recipients have a dissimilarity testing mindset. Based on previous research on narrative comprehension and experience as well as research on media priming, a short-term influence of stories on cognitive performance is predicted. In an experimental study, participants (N = 81) read a story about a stupid soccer hooligan. As expected, participants who read the story without a special processing instruction performed worse in a knowledge test than a control group who read an unrelated text. Participants with a reading goal instruction to find dissimilarities between the self and the main protagonist performed better than participants who read the story without this instruction. The effects of reported self-activation and story length were further considered. Future inquiries with narratives as primes and contrast effects in media effects research are discussed.
